In a few weeks, SkirtSports is kicking off their new Speaker Series with none other than Dimity McDowell. I was excited immediately because, well…who wouldn’t want to meet Dimity if given the chance? AND maybe, just maybe, I could get Dimity’s thoughts on your most burning running and mothering questions. Such as does she have any toenails left? Or when is it appropriate to to use your BOB to mow down the walkers in the way? According to retired Chick Brooke, Dimity is very funny and gracious, so I’m sure she would be more than willing to give us some insight into these, and your, burning questions.

The Contest Scoop:
1. Tweet us your questions for Dimity using the hashtag #scootdimity. Tweet as many questions as you like, but tweet them by 7/10/15. After that, the contest ends!
2. We will select the top three questions and announce winners on 7/13/15. I will ask as many of those three as I can at the event.
3. If your question is selected, you’ll win a prize! A fun and awesome prize, no less! Even if I don’t get to ask your question, you’ll still win a prize!
So start thinking and tweeting! The crazier and the funnier, the better. The more genuine and authentic, the better, too.
Let’s show Dimity who the Scoot community is and come up with some doozies for her!
This post and contest are not sponsored by SkirtSports or Dimity McDowell. All prizes are provided by Scootadoot.
Okay, so there are two parts to this post, and one of them is a giveaway! I promise, we’re not giving away dairy. Although, I’ve got some nice brie in my fridge…
Ditching Dairy
If you follow me on Twitter (@just_bec_), you may have seen my daily rants about the struggle of going dairy-free. And if you’ve read this blog for a while, you’ve no doubt heard me wax poetic about my love of cheese. So, how do these things go together? Hint: Not well.
Based on a pre-existing medical condition I have, my new doctors recommended doing some elimination dieting to see if we can determine what causes my issues. (That made it sound super ominous and serious, huh? It’s not, I promise, I’m fine!) And since dairy is a common culprit, that is where they wanted to start. Enter me having to give up all dairy for two months. ALL dairy. Even cheese Even ice cream.
I’ll miss you, buddy!
SIGH.
After a few false starts, I’ve made it through two full days. Not easily, and not without complaint, but I did it. I attempted Whole 30 last year, so it’s not surprising to me how many things contain dairy. But I only made it to Whole 4, mainly because of cream in my coffee. I’ve gotten a few recs so far for good dairy alternatives. I already liked almond milk, so that was cool. Oreos are vegan, so that’s a bonus. American Flatbread Vegan Harvest Pizza is pretty tasty, especially if you put pepperoni on it (don’t judge). And I even made some really delicious Dairy Free Banana Chocolate Chip muffins (those actually are vegan, so does that redeem me?).
With all that said, I can’t spend the next two months eating Oreos and frozen pizza. I mean, I could, but I don’t want to. And depending on how the test goes, this could be a very long term thing.
So, I’m going to need a little help here. Anyone have awesome dairy alternatives? (Meaning cheese or ice cream, because no other dairy really matters, amiright?) Or recipes you love that are inherently dairy-free? A plant based protein powder you love that doesn’t taste like grass? Or if you’ve successfully given up dairy, and you have tips to share, those would also be lovely.
Dashing Divas
Let’s move on to more pleasant topics, shall we? Diva Dash!
If you don’t know anything about Diva Dash, it’s a women only obstacle 5K. Think lots of costumes. Think LOTS of tutus! And some running and climbing on things and fun. And also, think charity. For 2015, the charity partner for the Shape Diva Dash is Girls on the Run. Awesome.
I’ve posted about Diva Dash before. I did my first Diva Dash in 2012. This was pre-Scoot, so to give you some background, 2012 was the year that I started running. I had been Couch to 5King since February, went to Atlantic City in April and did a 7K while Mer and Cam did the half, signed up for a couple of colorful runs over the summer, and when I saw this video, I knew I wanted to do Diva Dash.
Looks so fun, right? And challenging!
So I signed up, with every intention of spending the summer getting ready for obstacles and running. And then July came. And heat came. And running stopped. And by the time September rolled around, I was not at all ready.
I did it anyway, and it was fun, but by the end I was dying, and literally had medics pulling me aside and asking if I was okay. (I was fine, I just get really red in the face). Not exactly the experience I wanted to have.
Still, when sign up time came in 2013, I jumped right on it, planning to spend the summer getting ready. I think you can guess what happened. I went into the 2013 race with so much anxiety, and I wound up skipping a bunch of obstacles because I was nervous. Again, fun, but not the experience I wanted.
2014, I signed up again, and I don’t think I need to tell you what my plan was, or how it went. When race day dawned and it was 95 degrees and I was still suffering from PF, I just said screw it.
So, when I saw the sign ups for 2015, and I got the urge to sign up, I realized something. Diva Dash is my Moby Dick race. I have to conquer it! And, since I wanted to make sure I stayed good and motivated this year, I signed up to be a Shape Diva Dash Ambassador!
What does this mean for me? It means I’ve really got to stick with it this summer, so I can have the experience I want to have.
What does it mean for you? Well, if you live near (or want to travel to) any of the upcoming race locations this year (Washington, D.C. on 9/12, BOSTON on 9/26 or New York Metro on 10/10), you can use Discount Code AXSCOOT to get $10 off your registration. I highly reccommend Boston, since I live there, and that is the race I will be at, and you can come give me a hug.
And, since the Diva Dash ladies rock hard, they are letting us give away one free race entry! Awesome? Awesome. This giveaway will stay open until 6/19/15.
Tomorrow is a big day. Tomorrow I’m officially closer to 30 than to 20 – which I would complain about, but it would probably get me smacked, so I won’t. Tomorrow is my birthday! 26 big ones.
Sadly, there will be no watermelon cake this year.
Goodbye, parents’ health insurance. Hello, no more excuses for not actually adulting.
So, to celebrate this milestone day, I’m going to be Oprah. Or rather, I’ll be like Oprah. I’m pulling a reverse birthday and giving something to you all!
WOOT WOOT, @laurel_runs You’re the winner of the cutest race thank ever!
Thanks to everyone who entered the Giveaway and to BolderBOULDER for the hook-up. As always, they, and their race are amazing. I’m already planning for next year!
AND STAY TUNED, RUNNERS! ANOTHER AMAZING GIVEAWAY STARTS IN A FEW HOURS!!
Lately, we’ve been talking a lot about the BolderBOULDER. Mainly because Meridith is flying in to run it with me. She arrives on Friday and WE ARE SO EXCITED about that. Also, I’ve been touting the race as one of the best in the country and checking out some of the sponsored gear the BolderBOULDER Folks were kind enough to share with me. The Skechers GOrun 4s I tried were pretty sweet, and the Helly Hansen tech race shirts are always awesome. Bottom line, this race has the hook-up, and I’m sharing with you!
Up for grabs is this adorable pink tank top, and a BolderBOULDER bumper sticker. The shirt is size small, and they do run true to size. It’s super lightweight and perfect for summer training! It features a new tagline, “Run like 50,000 people are chasing you”.
SO CUTE!
Because that’s how any people run the BolderBOULDER.
I know, super cute, right? And it’s so soft and comfy, I know it will be a favorite of whomever wins it!
Enter often, this giveaway ends on Wednesday, May 27th. Good luck everyone!
This post is sponsored by the BolderBOULDER who provided the tank top to Scootadoot to do with as it will. We decided to give it away to one of our beautiful readers. It is size small, and is a polyester cotton blend.
Here at Scootadoot, when we celebrate, we celebrate big.
Ron Swanson says it best, and we certainly don’t half ass anything around here. Certainly not things like our Blogaversary.
We’ve done it up big this month, with giveaways and race recaps and doing crazy things like jumping into a frozen lake. But now, it comes to an end and we’ve saved our best giveaway for last!
As you know, the Scootadoot chicks are big fans of running (duh). And we’re big fans of ice cream (double duh). But we’re really big, BIG fans of Uncle Dave’s Jog n’ Hog.
For the past two years, Team Scoot has been represented at Jog n’ Hog, because we are a group who just can’t say no to races that are all about having fun. And Ron Swanson’s sentiment still holds true. We definitely whole ass it when it comes to Jog n’ Hog.
I mean, what could be better than a race where you run a mile and a half, wolf a pint (or, if you’re ambitious, a quart – Whole Hog indeed), and then run another mile and a half? Nothing. That’s what. Nothing is better. Because it’s awesome.
In 2013, we amassed a great team an ran the miles and ate the ice cream (and didn’t puke). It was glorious.
The first time we were united. FOR ICE CREAM.
In 2014, our team was smaller, but our will was not. Mer and crew took on the ice cream and the Pig with great success.
In 2015? Oh, you guessed it. We’re heading back to the farm. And we want to take YOU with us!
We need your help to eat all of this ice cream.
We want you along for the ride. Bring your sprinkles and your fudge and your iron stomach and join us in our race against the Pig.
That’s right!
Thanks to our good friends over at Jog n’ Hog, our last giveaway this month is ONE FREE RACE ENTRY (image I said that like The Count). AH AH AH.
Yes. Exactly like that.
We are so so so excited about this opportunity (the guys at Jn’H are pretty amazeballz) and we can’t wait to have one of you join us! (Or more of you, because even if you don’t win, you should still come run and eat ice cream and partake in the frivolity.)
So, click below and enter right meow for your chance to join Team Scootadoot in Yardley, PA on National Ice Cream Day this year. July 19. Bring. It. On.
Since running is kinda a big deal where I live, I wanted to contribute something from my hometown of Boulder, CO to our blogaversary celebration. Without a second thought, I headed straight to the Boulder Running Company store. I fell in love with this t-shirt because it has my two favorite colors, purple and turquoise. Plus, it’s just stylin’. And soft. And comfy feeling. And cute. So there.
Don’t lose faith that spring is coming!
Soft and light 100% cotton, but not see-through
Back of the shirt
Then, imagine my glee when I spotted the cute Sanuk sandals all lined up and on display for spring. Remember spring? It’s coming, y’all, don’t lose hope. If you’ve never heard of Sanuk, you need to know that their slogan is “Smile – Pass It On” (because yessssss), and that they make their shoes from recycled yoga mats. Yes, YOGA MATS. In my head, that automatically equates to foamy foot pillows, which they really are. I have a pair of these flip-flops, and I adore them. I wear them everywhere in the summer, especially after races. They are super thick and cushy for flip-flops and ultra durable, too; I’ve had my pair for 3 years. The pair in the giveaway are an elephant grey synthetic leather with dark pink accents in size 7.
As thick as a quarter, heaven for your tired feet!
I thought these two lovely items were so fantastic that one lucky reader needed to get in on this action. And although Boulder is sometimes touted for its complete lack of fashion sense, i.e. undying devotion to dreadlocks and serapes, if you win this giveaway rest assured that a serape is NOT included. Promise. You will, however, be cute as a button and oh sooooo comfortable. Best of luck, everyone!

Check in tomorrow for our final Blogaversary giveaway announcement from Kyle because it. Will. Be. Awesome. And ice cream. That is all.

Sandals are valued at 29.95 and have already been purchased in ladies size 7. Winner must supply mailing address directly to Scoot a Doot blog in order to receive the prizes. A few weeks ago, while watching Good Morning America on the treadmill, they featured the shirts of Wear Luck.
Immediately I was drawn to these because of the huge “I WILL” printed on the front of the shirt. The saying “I can and I will” has been my mantra since I started on my fitness journey four years ago; naturally these shirts called to me!
I wound up getting this one…
And while I was at it, I wound up getting this one for a lucky reader!
I will move more – eat less – be happier.
What do I love about these shirts? Um, everything! The fabric is very soft and it’s feels lovely. I don’t wear long sleeves often because I’m always warm. Unless I’m freezing. I don’t know, there’s no happy medium. Anywho…
These shirts are perfect because they are t-shirt material in a long sleeve shirt. Not see through, which is also a great plus!
The prize shirt is a large because I figure that if you’re smaller, it can run a little big or, if you’re built like me (aka: boobs), it will fit nicely. Plus an inspirational message is always appreciated! I’ve gotten many compliments on my shirt so I know that it speaks to others, as well as to ME.
So what do you have to do? Just click on the image below and enter via Rafflecopter. Cool? Cool.

Of course that means I went on a shopping spree. You know I love Sparkle Athletic skirts and visors and I – ahem – picked up some fun goodies to share with you all, our lovely readers.
We’ve mentioned more than once how much we dig Sparkle Athletics products, in part because they are a women-owned, women-run company based on the left coast. They are great people. And we love to support great people.

Giveaway begins Feb. 11 and ends at midnight on Feb. 15. Contest only open to U.S. residents. We will notify winner via email and on our Facebook page.
Please note that Vic purchased these prizes on her own. This post is not sponsored by Sparkle Athletic in any way. We just love their products and all the company represents. Prize package is worth $35.
Okay, not to be too macabre (this is tough for me, trust), and I don’t want to freak you out, but do you guys like horror movies? Because I don’t. At all. I have nightmares about ending up in a pit and being told to rub the lotion in or get the hose again. When left to my imagination, I conjure up all sorts of horrifying scenarios about what could happen to me as I go about my daily business. Exactly none of them have a happy ending. Why watch a horror movie when your brain makes you worry that you’ll be staring in one any moment? (HAPPY MONDAY, by the way. I promise this post is about to get a lot more cheerful.)
This is my brain on my imagination.
All that being said, my fear of possible doom hasn’t kept me from running alone outdoors, but it has kept me from fully enjoying those runs. Can you relate?
I thought so.
Maybe you can relate to this, too. Sometimes you feel vulnerable when you run, especially if you’re running with your child. Or you find that you’re often running alone, or in the dark, or in secluded areas around careless morotists. Maybe you’ve been injured and you needed to alert a loved one and get help quickly. Perhaps you’ve noticed something suspicious, or there’s wildlife on the trail, and you’d like to alert others. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were an app for that?
Well guess what?!
Enter Runsafe! I’m seriously SO EXCITED to tell you guys about this app because it has set me free of my obsessive fears. Not only does RunSafe track my runs with the same great features many popular fitness apps use, but it also has unique safety features that I love. Features like a panic button. Yes, a panic button, which alerts your numero uno contact when you press it to get help stat!
RunSafe tracks several activities with GPS, and calculates distance, altitude, time, speed/pace, and calories. It displays real time stats, creates splits and intensity graphs, and maps your routes. You can rate, annotate, and share your workouts on social media. It does all the things you want and expect a fitness app to do.
Those features are fantastic, but that’s not even the best part. I really love this app because it gives me a sense of security when I’m working on my fitness goals. I can focus a little more on my breathing or my pace, and spend a little less effort looking over my shoulder. The little extra peace of mind this app gives me and my family is priceless.
With the free version, the Runsafe app does all of the above and sends text and email alerts to your contacts, creates an Alert Profile for you which displays vital info like a photo of you, your height, weight, age, gender, and, if/when you hit the panic button, your last known location. When you hit the panic button, it’s game on! The app sends an alert to all of your contacts, initiates a loud siren and strobe light to attract attention, activates the microphone to record several minutes of sound that your contacts can access, and activates your Alert Profile so that contacts can mobilize a response.
The premium features let you notify a designated contact if you’re not back when you should be. Your contacts can also see your workout in real time, and you can set automatic alerts.
NO JOKE. I really love this. It’s like an Amber alert for active people!
Many of the features of the app are free for users, which really punches home the message that the RunSafe folks are all about the safety and not so much about the profit. They were nice enough to set up an account for us to try their premium service for three months free. After that, you can continue with the premium features for $4.99 a month, or drop back to the free features (which are pretty amazing by themselves). Click the logo to check out the giveaway and run safer, everyone! #safetyissexy
