You may have noticed that the chicks love to sparkle. We often wear Sparkle Athletic skirts and visors at races – chances are you’ve seen Vic working the Sparkle booth at a few race expos.

Scoot a Doot’s blogaversary (and a giveaway)

What a year our first has been!

The Scoot a Doot chicks have known each other for years – decades, even – and last winter came together to share our love of fitness, friendship and life.

chicks

We’ve shared the joys of our children, including two handsome newborn sons.  We’ve also shared the loss of one beloved family dog, and the addition of several new fur friends.

We’ve celebrated new beginnings, such as new jobs, new relationships and new challenges and goals. We also shared how sometimes we fell short.

Together, with many of you, we raised more than $2,000 to fight childhood cancer as Team Scoot a Doot logged more than 1,750 miles last September for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Million Mile Run.

yellowcollage

Together we watched the unthinkable unfold in Boston last April, as bombings abruptly ended the 117th running of the nation’s oldest marathon.

Together, we encouraged each other to do our best, even on days when we felt our worst.

The good, the bad, the unfiltered. We are blessed to share our lives with you, our readers and friends.

As a thank you for reading, we want to share a few special treats for our anniversary giveaway.

Another Mother Runner… Or Two!

Living an entire country apart, we find interesting reasons to reunite.  Most of the time it includes running and for a good long while now, we’ve been trying to get it to include a Ragnar Relay Race.

Gifts from Brooke!

We Chicks also know the importance of Mother tribe support when it comes to running. Note the book that Brooke sent along to Meridith when she began running.

So when we saw this contest on Another Mother Runner’s site, we saw a perfect opportunity for Mer and Cam to support AMR and their quest for Ragnar domination.

The Evidence

Exhibit R – We Love Ragnar

Okay, well, Cam loves Ragnar. Mer *thinks* she loves Ragnar.  Cam starts most conversations with “So, have you heard of Ragnar?” and talks about her Ninja team.  A lot.  She’s ran six Ragnars.  She’s practically an expert, and expertise is always a valuable addition to a team.  This makes Mer an expert by proxy.

Because seriously, Cam can’t shut up about Ragnar.

Coincidence or destiny?

Coincidence or destiny? That’s Cam’s Ninja star!

Exhibit A – We’ll bring snacks!

Being moms, we take the role of snack provider very seriously.  Cam’s carried cake onto a plane before, don’t think she won’t do it again.  You never know what gourmet morsel you’ll find in Mer’s arsenal, but one thing’s for sure, she doesn’t mess around.  Chick Jess can attest.

Exhibit G – We’ll make costumes!

With Mer’s imagination and Cam’s sewing machine, we have quite the reputation of running while cute.  The best part?  We’re shameless!  We don’t care what kind of shenanigans you have in store for us, we’ll rock it like a mother.  Chick Vic knows what’s up.

Exhibit N – We don’t mind letting other people be in charge!

Mer and Cam are here for the good of the team.  We’ll grab that wheel if it’s available!  But we’re not above letting someone else drive.  Occasionally.  We’re never bossy.  And we’d never, ever, force people to make videos proclaiming our awesomeness.  See, even Mer’s husband Jay says so. (Say it, Jay. SAY IT.)

We hereby promise to only ever use the megaphone for the good of all Ragnarians!

Fear the Megaphone!

Exhibit A – We’re musically inclined.

As previously indicated by this post, Cam and Mer have diverse music tastes.  You want to rock out?  We can jam on the air guitar.  You want to spit phat rhymes?  We’ll throw down.

Chick Brooke says it best.

Exhibit R – We’ve got mad jokes.
We love to laugh.  Being in a smelly van with 10 strangers overnight while running 200 miles is going to take a sense of humor and we’re funny mothers.

We're very serious runners.

Closing Arguments
Representing both coasts! We can be like the Tupac and Biggie of Ragnar.

Representing both coasts! We’re like the Tupac and Biggie of Ragnar.

The truth is, we’re an awesome duo.  We’re hardworking moms who love running and love talking about running.  We’re excited about this opportunity and will bring a ton of fun to anything we’re a part of.  Still not convinced? (How is this possible?!?!) Well, Cam has something to say about that!

We’re the moms you’re looking for… Jedi mind trick is always worth a shot.

Road ID Giveaway: Safety first, safety last, safety always!

Who is a Nervous Nelly (like I am) when it comes to safety?

When I first started running longer distances, I always carried my license (and keys, GU, phone, iPod) in either my pockets or pouch and then spent the rest of the run wondering if I was going to lose my license when I grabbed a GU.  I had visions of my license flying out, into the river, and then a tragic accident befalling me as I scrambled after my license. How would anyone know who I was? How would they notify my husband that I had a very overactive imagination?

Or worse, what if something actually happened to me?

Thankfully, my running coach Brandi, and running partner Sarah, saw me silently freaking out during a run one day (until I tracked down my license) and asked what, exactly, I was doing.

That’s when I first heard about Road ID.

roadid2

Wearing my Road ID during the Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge.

Road IDs are a nifty little way to share your information with anyone who might need to know.  While my license has my name and address, it doesn’t have the phone numbers of my nearest and dearest, which could come in handy if something were to happen to me. Of course, I still fill out the back of my bib during races, but for training runs that’s not an option.

Safety first, people!

Once I got my first Road ID, I clearly needed another because there were so many options and I needed to be really safe. (And fashionable.)

Of course, my friends had to get in on the action.

Jess rocking her Road ID at the Color Run. She was 18 weeks pregnant during this event and while Cam and I were with her, we wanted to make sure she was well cared for!

And my children needed them, too. The slim bracelet works really well for the kids and mine have worn them everywhere from a Disney Cruise vacation, to camping, to school/camp trips and, of course, during runs.

Pooks showing off his Road ID.

Besides including the basics (name, year of birth, hometown and state, phone numbers of family), there’s a sixth line available to include a motto or any medical conditions. My little guy has Autism, which is something that he cannot express for himself at this stage in the game, so the sixth line provides that information if he should ever get separated from us. (Obviously, I’d be having a panic attack, were that ever to happen. But knowing that he has his Road ID will help me have a slightly less severe panic attack.)

While I have all the pertinent information on lines one through five, my sixth line has my motto when it comes to working out – I CAN AND I WILL! It’s always nice to have that little reminder there for myself!

I asked my fellow Chicks what sayings they’d use for motivation.

Now, of course, we want our Scoot a Doot readers to all be safe and sound, too – which is why we are thrilled to partner with Road ID on a giveaway for two $35 eCard Gift Certificates for two lucky readers to buy their own Road IDs!

So how do you enter to win?  There are a couple of different things you can do to increase your chances:

1. Leave us a comment on this post. What would you put on your sixth line of your Road ID?

2. Follow Road ID on Facebook.  Leave us a comment saying that you did (honor system, guys!).

3. Follow Road ID on Twitter. Leave another comment.

4. Follow Scoot a Doot on Twitter and Facebook. Add another comment!

5. Share this contest anywhere– your own blog, Facebook, Twitter, t-shirt, sign on your lawn, where ever.  Leave a comment (a link is always awesome, as are pictures – especially if you make a t-shirt. That would be really rad) and you get another entry!

Contest ends Thursday, 4/4/13 at midnight EST. We’ll use Random.org to choose the winners and announce them on Friday, 4/5/13 here on the blog.  Cool?  Cool!

This contest has sadly come to an end!  Look for more giveaways from us soon!
