Last weekend, I cheered friends from afar as they ran through Walt Disney World during runDisney’s annual marathon weekend.
Some ran the family fun run and other ran the inaugural 10K. Some ran the half and others ran a full 26.2 miles on Sunday morning.
More than 50,000 runners participated in the WDW Marathon weekend last week, and among them were about 7,000 runners who ran ALL THE RACES as part of the inaugural Dopey Challenge.
That’s right. Four Days. Four races. 48.6 miles and six incredible medals.

Last year I ran the Goofy Challenge (a half marathon and a full marathon over two days). I decided to skip the event this year and cheer from afar. And in 2015, I’m planning to return to the WDW and complete the Dopey Challenge.
And I think I *might* be able to convince Meri to tackle her first marathon at the same time! Who else is with us? We’re taking names!
I think I may have to run @rundisney‘s #DopeyChallenge in 2015! This year’s finishers made 48.6 miles look just magical! #runDisney#ruchat

Congratulations to all the Dopey Challenge finishers and all marathon weekend participants!
Have you ever run a runDisney “challenge?” Would you consider running Dopey?
I’d do it. I would question my sanity the whole time, but I’d do it.
I knew I could could on you Kyle! And I will most certainly question my sanity.
I’m actually more concerned about getting up at 2 am for four straight days over the mileage.
So much early. And you and I both know how thrilled I am to be awake at earlier-than-normal-human hours.
You have pre-dawn parties! Haha , yeah, it’s damn early. A lot of this event is the mental challenge.
I really want to do this, but I don’t know that I’ll be able to. The funny thing is, the distance is the least difficult part of the equation for me. If I didn’t have to figure out time off work, traveling, costs, etc., I’d sign up right now to do 48.6 next January.
I know, right? Let’s chat further about this in the coming weeks!
I ran Dumbo, but no way Jose on the Dopey for me.

Thanks for sharing, Krissy and I totally get it. I have very similar reasons as per why I decided not to run it this year. Mainly the hefty price tag and cost of participating and four straight early morning races.
If I start saving, and planning now, though I might actually be able to make this happen. 🙂
Thanks for linking us. I feel the same. Never say never, but yeah…not likely. 🙂
Those are some awesome medals!!
I wholeheartedly agree!
I think my legs would probably fall off if I attempted that! I’m so injury prone, I wonder if I’ll ever be able to get through even a marathon training program. But I have all the faith in the world that you’ll kick Dopey’s butt! 🙂
Thanks Lisa!! Xo
I doubt I could handle all that because marathons seem scary but Id love to do a disney half.
Disney half marathons are a TON of fun! They make it very encouraging for first- time distance runners too. (And they sure know how to entertain!)
Two of the Scoot chicks are doing Disneyland half! Isn’t that in your neck of the woods, Ashley? I’ve heard that course is better too.
Exciting! I don’t think I would want to do Goofy or Dopey, but I do think I’m going to sign up for my first marathon at WDW in 2015. I have a little time to figure it out, but it’s starting to feel like a good idea. Which probably means someone should talk some sense into me, soon.
I said I was done with Disney races, but I would consider doing Goofy if the Chicks will be there.
Yessss!
SO COOL!
🙂
Yay! I’m hoping to go Dopey in 2015 as well. My husband thinks I’ve lost my mind.
Mine too! Cheers to losing our minds!
