Holiday merriment is in full swing here in our house! Our trees are up, the banister is decorated, our menorah is ready for this evening’s first night of Hanukkah, and my kids excitement and noise level are at a constant eleven.
Between running from music recitals to art shows to karate testing to Scout meetings and parties and whatever else I’m forgetting to list right now, there’s the age ol’ task of wrapping presents. This task usually falls on me, because, well I think I said once that I liked it (what a mistake that was).
My older son has been really great about pitching in and wrapping gifts for me and things that he’s bought, but the majority of the gift wrapping falls on me. Last year I even hurt myself wrapping presents. I am a talented one, I know!
This year, I’m just trying to figure out how to get everything accomplished and remain sane. Rather than wrapping everything all at once, like I’ve done in the past, I’m attempting to wrap prezzies as they come through the door.
My main wrapping area station is the floor in my bedroom, where I have enough space to spread out the wrapping paper and my box of scissors, tape, labels, etc. that I can quickly squirrel away if anyone happens upon me mid-wrap.
The one issue that I have is that there’s no television or holiday movies to keep me entertained upstairs. I could bring everything downstairs but I like keeping everything consolidated and I don’t want to carry the bigger gifts up and down the steps. #firstworldproblems
Thankfully, I have my AfterShokz Trekz Titanium wireless headphones and they’ve made all the difference this year. Not just for running training runs and races, my friends! I’ve been putting these to work and they’ve yet to let me down.
My mail lady (who brings many, many packages from Amazon) usually arrives at 1:30pm and my kids begin arriving an hour later.
Donning my AfterShokz headphones I’m able to listen to holiday tunes/laugh along with my favorite podcasts and wrap to my hearts content. If I lose track of time, I’m able to hear my kiddo’s triumphant return from school even when I’m jamming out, thanks to the open ear design.
Here’s to making life easier and embracing the little things along the way that help make that happen!
How are you getting ready for the holidays? Any tips or tricks that you use to make wrapping less of a chore? Here’s how a few of my fellow BRPs are jumping their holiday hurdles:

This is the first year I have wrapped presents when I got home from shopping or when they arrived by UPS or Fed Express. I do my wrapping on the kitchen counter that faces my TV in the family room. I put on Christmas music or watch a Hallmark show to help get me in the spirit. If I got down on the floor like you, I would need someone to help me get back up…..lol. It has worked out so much better and everything is done and wrapped and before 12/13 which is our younger son’s birthday. I light up the outside on his birthday but to have everything already wrapped in preparation of the arrival of our son Paul, wife Lisa, grandson Jordan 25, granddaughter Haley 22, her fiance Denny, grandson Alex 12 and granddaughter Ella Beth 5……along with Sophie, Princess, Jersey and possibly Cooper (our granddogs)…….is nothing short of amazing. Our two bedroom home will be filled with chaos and excitement from December 26 through New Years and I thank God everyday for my blessings.
I’ve been watching the Hallmark movies too! They’re all mostly the same but I love them, regardless. 😉 I hope you and your family have a wonderful couple of weeks coming up – I miss you and we should try and plan something for January, when things quiet down a bit!
Would love that. Wishing you and your family a Happy Hanukkah and a Merry Christmas.
I haven’t even started wrapping yet! Yikes! But I have watched my fair share of Christmas movies! Elf anyone?!
p.s. Erin would be so proud you said prezzies! <3
YES, ELF, YES!!! I have done so much wrapping. So much. I’ve gone through 2 rolls of tape already. Right now I’m wrapping 25 presents for our Scout party this weekend. I would really like to be done but I guess that’s not happening any time soon.
My bestie says prezzies too so it’s ingrained now!

Wrapping presents used to be one of my favorite things to do. Those crisp folds. LOL. Now that I have a real job, I can’t be bothered, which makes me feel like such a terrible person. I had a Secret Santa thing at work and I literally took the Amazon package that the present came in, ripped my name off, and wrote “To…” The person said it was very minimalistic of me so I’m going to go with that from now on. LOL
Minimalistic! I like it! I was chatting with a friend the other day and we were talking about how we could get out of wrapping and saying that it’s much more environmentally friendly if we DON’T use all that wrapping paper. My kids might revolt though so that may have to wait a few more years. LOL
