Folks, I have a problem. For the life of me, I’m not able to keep a headband on my head.
I know, I know. This is what we classify as a “first world problem”. Alert the media! Sound the alarm! Ring the bell!
This is a dramatic reenactment of what usually occurs when I wear a headband while working out. Notice the large and in charge beehive-like bun on my head that catches the headband as it slowly works its way off my head. Most of the time I’m so caught up in whatever I’m doing (usually running or strength training) that I don’t realize the band has slid off until it’s too late. I’ve lost more than one headband in this manner.
If I don’t lose them, they still don’t last very long into a run. When I actually feel slippage occurring, rather than losing the pretty band, I just rip it from my head and put it away in my trusty SPIbelt. Such was the case at runDisney’s Princess Half Marathon in 2012 – if you look at the pictures you’ll see that both Brooke and Vic are wearing their awesomely sparkly headbands. My SPIbelt was wearing mine.
So, when I had the opportunity to check out Sweaty Bands, let’s just say that I was a bit nervous. Because, really, who wants to admit defeat and publicly say “my head just doesn’t want a headband on it!” However, the Sweaty Bands tagline is “OMG… they don’t slip!” And guess what…
OMG… they really don’t!
Sweaty Bands has a plethora of designs, colors, sports teams and even Greek letters, ripe for the picking. They graciously provided a Sweaty Band for me to check out and review.
There were two in the package; the black and chartreuse matched the dress I planned to wear for a cousin’s baby shower so naturally I imprinted on it (the other one? Well, stay tuned for its fate). If the Sweaty Band could stay on my head for a four hour shower, it might have success during a crazy intense work out.
Road Test #1 – Cousin’s baby shower
Hair was down for this one (top picture). I considered this a warm up for the actual Road Test. Because, really, how sweaty do you really get playing Baby Shower Bingo and Guess the Number of Chocolate Kisses in the Bottle? Not very. However, I did get many compliments on the band and it stayed put the entire time. The material on the inside of the band is velvety and once I pushed it back a bit, it stayed right where it was placed.
Sweaty Bands recommends that you wear it closer to the hairline when working out so that was the plan for the work out.
Road Test #2 – Tuesdays with Ron
Tuesday morning I woke up at my regular 5:10am. Got dressed in the clothes I’d laid out the previous night and threw my hair into a ponytail before placing my Sweaty Band at the hairline. Snapped the selfie (bottom picture) and off I went.
Two mile warm up on the bike, two mile run and then an hour of deadlifts, cleans, push press, bench press, walking lunges, situps, repeaters on a tire, and tricep dips, just to name a few. I kept patting my head, checking on the Sweaty Band and sure enough, it was still there. Sitting pretty! Naturally, I was a hot mess and the Sweaty Band was… sweaty. But absolutely awesome!
Washing the Sweaty Band is easy peasy lemon squeezy – hand wash (I used a bit of Woolite) and drip dry. I’m definitely bringing this bad boy along with me to Florida where I’m assured I’ll sweat even more than I do here. I’m not sure that’s physically possible, but at least I’ll look cute!
Sweaty Bands was awesome enough to provide one for me to test out and one for Scoot a Doot to give away! If you’d like a chance, check out our Rafflecopter giveaway by clicking on the picture or swinging by our Facebook page. This contest runs from 8/15/13 – 8/22/13.
Disclaimer: I received one Sweaty Bands headband for review. All words and opinions are my own. Giveaway prize donated by Sweaty Bands.
ohhhhh i have this same issue! def entering this… i hate the battle of the slipping headband. this is why i often run in a hat, but then my head overheats. ew.
I’m so glad to hear I’m not the only one! I agree with the hats, I wear them occasionally but my whole head overheats. I’m just a sweaty mess. Good luck!
Headbands NEVER stay on my head, either! So…totally need to win me (or try on my own…ho-hum) a SweatyBands! Woot!
See, and I totally envision you as a girl who can rock a headband. These are awesome!
I absolutely love Sweaty Bands! I own at least 40 of them. For a while it was my addiction trying to get one for every running outfit I own. I love the Flamingo Dancer band! I actually used to wear hats until I came across Sweaty Bands and haven’t worn a hat since.
You are a dedicated Sweaty Bands gal!!! So awesome.
But for reals, Mer. I have this exact problem, which has led to me get very creative with my headband situation. In high school? I was all about the pre-wrap. It stayed put and I could steal it from the athletic trainer’s bag whenever I needed it. These are MUCH cuter though.I want.
Bwahahaha! I’m sure that looked interesting. Definitely not as cute as these though. There are so many options – I’ve got my eye on an owl one. Because hello, OWLS.
I’ve tried them & I love them! I’d love this color!!!
This one is a lot of fun, right??? The bright colors are awesome.
I have one Sweatyband and I love it!! I have the same problem as you with headbands slipping. I must have a goofy head!
I’m so glad to hear I’m not the only one with a slipping problem. I love the velvet on the inside that gripes – totally genius.
I have the exact same problem. I have a few Sweaty Bands, and I love them. They always stay EXACTLY where they are supposed to.
Yes! I’m so grateful that I got a chance to check the Sweaty Bands out. I’m now a lifelong fan! 🙂
I was telling Rob yesterday how I think my head might be deformed because I can’t keep a headband on at all. They fall off running or during CrossFit and if not on thee floor they end up around my wrist. I was going to scour the DL Expo looking for a new one….or maybe win one here 🙂
You know what, I’m beginning to think that this is a band issue and not a head issue! 😉 Definitely check them out, Heather! We can get matching ones for Team Tinktable!
I love sweaty bands!! My fave is probably the special Disney princess half from this year.
Oooooh, I haven’t seen that one yet! I’ll have to check it out – love Disney. 🙂
I’ve never tried sweaty bands before, but I’d love to. I really like the Amazeing print.
I’m so glad I got the opportunity because I’m sold on them! No more losing headbands for me.
I really like the viva diva ones! I have never tired them, but have heard a lot of good things about them!
Yes!!! The sparkly viva diva ones are right up my alley too. I have a hard time deciding which one to get first but is probably go with purple.
I’ve never tried a Sweaty Band before but my running buddy loves hers! I like the new one called Float Away with me – my favorite color!
Oh, that one is so much fun. Good luck to you.
I definitely have a drawer full of headbands that had such promise but then promptly fell off my head. I must have a weirdly shaped head… Checked out the website and I think “squared away” and “prime time” are my favorite prints.
I could see you in both of those, Ker! So much fun.
I was always convinced that I must have an egg shaped head for every single band to slide right off in a matter of moments!
It’s not just you! Let’s blame the bands. ;). Thankfully, these are solid!
I still think my head is not the right shape for headbands (Am I a cone head?!) but the velvet in the Sweaty Band does do a stand-up job for me!
I have to wear mine pretty close to the hairline 🙁
I like wearing it close to my hairline since it actually does catch some of the sweat. 🙂 Score!
I love the plain sparkley ones. I also have a no headband will stay problem so Ive wanted to try one of these for a while!
I hear ya! Best of luck!
I either have a giant head (super brain) or Headbands work for NO ONE! I bought a Sweaty band about 6 months ago and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!! I toss mine in the wash with my workout wear and it holds up like new! Huge fan of Sweaty Bands!
You definitely have a super brain! And it’s good to know you toss yours in the wash – night have to try that. #leastamountofworkpossible
I have never found a headband that will stay on my head. This sounds too good to be true! Might have to test it out…
I’ll admit, I wasn’t thinking my fate would be good with the way my success rate has been in the past! I was happily and pleasantly surprised. 🙂
I have the exact same issue!! I love the black and white chevron one! It’s my new thing 🙂
Yes to the chevron! Always a fun print. 🙂
I have the same problem – would love to try one of these out! =)
Good luck to you Di!
I totally want to try this!
Good luck KW!
I can’t believe how many different ones there are, I really liked the chakra dots pattern.
Ooooh, yes! Love that one too!
I love sweaty bands. Most give me a headache or fall off, not them!! I need chevron!
I agree – I’ve had headband headaches before and it’s the worst. These don’t cause that, thankfully!
Sweaty Bands are my favorite! I’m not actually sure how many I have…but I *need* something from the collegiate collection.
Yes!!! Good luck to you!
I love all the cute designs they offer! Can’t really choose just one. I do like the argyles, stripes, and new team colors! See. Told u I couldn’t choose!
They are all super cute, aren’t they? All the Sweaty Bands!
I’ve kind of given up on headbands because they never stay on. I’d love to try Sweaty Bands though and see if they do the trick. The Be A Dahlia pattern under New Arrivals is really cute!
I’d nearly given up too until these! They rock!
I tried these at the recommendation of my sister, who heard about the Cincy-based company from my mom’s cousin’s daughter who just married a 2nd-year player for the Bengals.
Word gets around because these are awesommmmmme! I don’t want to hog all the prizes, except…I want allllllllllll the Sweaty Bands. They just… They work. So I want more. Like I said, I want them all. Alllllllllll.
Love ya, chicks!
Kimberly! We adore you and love that you’re a Sweaty Bands fan as well. Just one more thing that makes you extremely awesome. 🙂
My sister bought me a sweaty band for Xmas ages ago. I was so skeptical bc all headbands fall off!! Not my sweaty band. Its stayed put on even my 20 mile runs! !
They are fantastic, aren’t they? Now that I’ve found ones that work, I want them all! 😉
I like the black and pink candy striper. I haven’t tried Sweaty Bands. I really need something to wear at work or even running that will not come off.
That one is cute! Best of luck to you!
I love the Be A Dahlia!
Best of luck, Mandy!
I would have never guessed there were so many others out there who think their heads are deformed because headbands won’t stay on! I thought it was just me!
No, no. I have a big problem when it comes to heads and bands and staying and etc. It’s very sad.
